Minimalism Through Fashion.
If you haven’t noticed through my Instagram lately, I’ve started to drift over to more neutral toned looks and even photos. Why, you ask? Using solid based colors and patterns are so much easier to style in my opinion. This doesn’t mean run to your closet and throw everything that has vibrant colors in a bag and sell them to Plato’s Closet. What I mean is, sometimes less is more. So today, I’ll show you how to completely style a look with simple hues.
The Look.
I like to call this look “Fifty Shades of Grey", because that’s exactly what it consists of (not exactly 50,but you get the point). Achieving a well-styled minimal look starts with choosing a max of 3 colors. Doing this helps with pairing your choices with other items that may be more bold. I chose all grey tones for this look, because it presents a more dapper, yet casual vibe. This look could have easily been thrown off with one wrong hue. So let me break down why I chose the shades of this look.
The Top Half.
The jacket and thermal I wore are almost the same color; there’s maybe a shade or two separating them. Deciding to pair the two tones on top was a wise choice, due to if I would have worn pants a similar color, it would have been too much. You always want to make sure your top and bottom has an area of difference (unless it’s an all black or white look) or it could get bad, really fast. I also appreciate that the silver buttons and zippers give the top half a little more personality. This is why layering with minimal toned looks is important.
The Bottom Half.
When wearing a moto jacket, the best pants to help pull the look together will be either ripped denim, dress pants, or chinos. This time chinos were the winner. The pants pair so well with the look because of the color and the versatility of them! The light grey helped will color blocking the top half and the sneakers. Although these Steven Madden sneakers are on the lighter end of the grey spectrum, it works because there’s a good balance in between. Toned down looks are all about minimal accessorizing, tones, and a good balance.
